For over twenty years, Xu Zhiyong has been a leading voice in China’s human rights movement, from the Open Constitution Initiative to the New Citizens Movement. Professor Kellogg will discuss Xu’s democratic vision in Beautiful China and how his work on rights and the rule of law led to a fourteen-year prison sentence for “subversion of state power.”
過去二十多年裡，許志永一直是中國人權運動的重要推動者，從「公盟」到「新公民運動」Kellogg 教授將以《美好中國》爲基礎，介紹許志永的民主願景、他對人權與法治的思考，以及這些努力如何最終使他因「顛覆國家政權」而被判十四年徒刑。

About the Speaker 

Thomas Kellogg is executive director of the Georgetown Center for Asian Law and a leading scholar of legal reform, human rights, and constitutionalism in China. He previously led the East Asia Program at the Open Society Foundations and has written and taught widely on Chinese law and U.S.–China relations.
