季風人文講壇7月份活動通知
JF Salon Announcement of July
In July 2025, JF Salon continues to explore the tensions between memory and amnesia, power and voice, through six conversations that stretch across literature, history, diplomacy, and food. This month, we welcome poets, policy experts, chefs, and public intellectuals whose stories speak to the cultural collisions of our time—from ecological poetics to culinary resistance, from Old Shanghai to Cold War legacies.

Ecopoetics of Language: Poetic Resonance
Across Borders![]()
![]()
Wednesday, 6:00–7:30 PM|Bilingual (中文 & English)
How can language be ecological? In this cross-cultural conversation, poets Zhang Er and Leonard Schwartz explore the entanglements between Chinese and American English, poetry, and environment. Like ecosystems, languages shape and respond to change—offering poetic insight into translation, resonance, and cultural transformation.
About the Speakers
Zhang Er is a Beijing-born poet, translator, and opera librettist. Her bilingual poetry has been published by Zephyr Press, and she has translated John Ashbery and co-edited major anthologies of Chinese poetry.
Leonard Schwartz is an American poet and essayist whose works traverse philosophy, politics, and poetics. He hosted the long-running radio show Cross Cultural Poetics.
本場中美詩人對話,張耳與Schwartz將探討語言、詩與環境的交織關係。語言如同生態系統,既塑造文化,也受文化改變;跨語言的詩意回聲,正是我們理解當代與翻譯的起點。
July 13|秦暉 Qin Hui
利維坦的成長與變形:權力、社會與國家的再思考
Sunday, 7:00–8:30 PM|中文 In Chinese
About the Speaker 講者介紹
當代中國最具批判精神的公共知識分子之一,秦暉是一位兼具歷史學者深度與社會評論銳度的學者。他退休前為清華大學教授,現為日本明治大學客座教授,北海道大學客座研究員。專長中國社會史、農民問題與制度史研究,長期關注中國傳統政治文化的深層結構及其在現代的變形與延續。最新著作《娜拉出走以後》、《拯救德先生》
In this lecture, historian Qin Hui draws on his decades of research to trace the rise and transformation of Leviathan—modern state power—in contemporary times. Through the lenses of peasant society, constitutional tradition, and the legacy of liberal thought, he examines why the state continues to expand, why it shifts direction, and how individuals and civil society might respond in an era of profound global political and economic upheaval.

言辭、交易與事實:如何分析與預測川普對華政策的方向
Friday, 6:00–7:30 PM|Chinese (中文 & English Q&A)
隨著川普總統第二任期的展開,美中關係再次進入不確定與衝突不斷的階段:从貿易對抗到台海劍拔弩張,國際秩序的重塑,以及制度與價值觀的根本對抗。川普政府對華政策的調性日趨強硬,政策執行則充滿臨時性與交易性,使得外界難以從表象中掌握真實意圖。如何讀懂雙邊政府傳遞的真正信號,如何辨識其中的戰略圖像,成為解讀未來中美關係的關鍵。
As Trump begins his second term, U.S.-China relations are once again defined by uncertainty and confrontation—from trade tensions to Taiwan crisis, and a deeper clash over global order and political values. With increasingly aggressive rhetoric and ad hoc, transactional policymaking, it has become harder to read the true direction of U.S. strategy. Decoding the signals behind official language is now crucial to understanding where the relationship may be headed.
About the Speaker
戴博曾任美國外交官及駐北京文化交流官,三十多年來深耕美中關係。他曾擔任約翰霍普金斯一南京大學中美文化研究中心美方主任,並在馬里蘭大學與雪城大學主持相關項目。他也曾參與電視製作(如《北京人在纽約》),推動語言與文化節目。戴博中文流利,曾為江澤民與季辛吉等領導人擔任翻譯。
