In the past decade, Hong Kong citizens have taken to the streets one after another, overturning the image of Hongkongers being politically apathetic and stimulating rich public discussions, while also highlighting many social contradictions. Many familiar concepts today, such as core values, public space, collective memory, real estate hegemony, and local identity, largely originated from social movements.
