This book offers a rigorous analytical discussion of moral cases, rather than appealing to intuition or providing an encyclopedic compilation of various specific moral scenarios. Instead, if a story with a moral lesson is to be thought-provoking, it should manifest its situational structure, moral principles, applicability of principles, and personal identity through discursive analysis. Human behavior always carries a sense of value, considering "what is good?"; however, how to think about the moral foundations that permeate politics, law, faith, etiquette, and social behavior is comparatively more important. The author specifically proposes "casuistry" as a methodology, but the term and epistemological type of "casuistry" are unfamiliar to most people. The Chinese term "決疑" (juéyí) does not convey the etymological origin of the word from "cases," perhaps it could be replaced with "案例學" (ànlìxué, casuistics) for better understanding. Casuistic thinking is rooted in Greek philosophy and Christian theology, and is widely used in legal and religious precedents. This book also briefly outlines the historical origins of casuistry, but what is important is its contemporary revival, which is known as "new casuistry." In drawing upon the new trends in the development of casuistry, the author intends to highlight the importance of case-based thinking, because the social conditions of the contemporary world have undergone tremendous changes. The problem to be faced is: in a multicultural situation with different religious stances, how to adjust to a moral judgment that is consistent with mutual understanding? Casuistry (casuistics) is concerned with the situation in a case.
