The Zhuoshui River, Taiwan's longest river, is also its most important artery. The author, born in the Zhuoshui River basin and having long worked in agriculture, has a deep affection and attachment to the land and the river. This book is the culmination of the author's work as Nantou County's second Artist-in-Residence. In this book, the author embarks from the source of the Zhuoshui River—the Sakuma Saddle between Mount Qilai North Peak and Mount Hehuan East Peak—and travels along indigenous villages such as Wanda, Qubin, Wanfeng, and Wujie. Through personal natural and cultural investigations, meticulously documented, the author describes and critiques the various facets of this land, both beautiful and problematic. With a simple yet profound writing style that blends intellect and emotion, the author consistently demonstrates passion and dedication to the homeland. This writing is a direct and powerful act of love for Taiwan by a literary artist.
