Think Republic of China

The Republic of China is the first country in Chinese history to be founded on the idea of popular sovereignty, and the first country in Taiwan's history to effectively exercise sovereignty internationally in the name of a state. With 1949 as the dividing line, the two phases of the Republic of China have both a conceptual continuity and a realistic twist due to the complex relationship between the two sides of the strait over the past century and ideological differences.

《Thinking about the Republic of China》 takes the perspective of modernization transformation, arguing that the Republic of China is an integration of Chinese and Western modernization models, responding upward to the calls of Confucian scholars such as Wang Yangming, Huang Zongxi, and Wang Chuanshan, and integrating the democratic system envisioned by the surging Western trend at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, forming the first democratic system in national history. This book also interprets the internal development relationship between Taiwan and the Republic of China from the perspectives of "geopolitics of local customs" and "internal cross-strait nature", not only inheriting the spirit of the contemporary New Confucian manifesto, but also reflecting the views of citizens of the Republic of China based in Taiwan.
