Dung Kai Cheung was born in Hong Kong in 1967. He received his Master's degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Hong Kong and now dedicates himself to writing and part-time teaching. In 1994, he won the first prize for novella at the 8th United Daily News Literary Award for New Writers with "Androgeny", and also received a recommendation award for short stories at the same event with "Young Shennong". In 1995, he won the special prize for long novels at the United Daily News Literary Award with "Twin Body". In 1997, he received the New Talent Award at the 1st Hong Kong Arts Development Council Literary Awards. After the publication of "The Catalog of Earthly Manufactures" in 2005, it won the China Times Open Book Award Top Ten Books (Chinese Fiction Category), Yazhou Zhoukan Chinese Top Ten Books, Eslite Bookstore's Annual Best / Best Cover Design, and United Daily News Literary Best Book Award (Literature Category). In 2006, "The Catalog of Earthly Manufactures" won the Finalist Award at the 1st "Dream of the Red Chamber Award: World Chinese Novel Award". In 2008, he again won the Finalist Award at the 2nd Dream of the Red Chamber Award with "A Concise History of Time". In 2009, he was awarded the Best Artist Award (Literary Arts) for 2007/2008 by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In 2010, "The Age of Learning" won Yazhou Zhoukan Chinese Top Ten Books. In 2011, "The Age of Learning" won the "4th Hong Kong Book Prize". In 2011, "The Catalog of Earthly Manufactures" (Simplified Chinese edition) won the 1st Huishan Shi Nai'an Literary Award. In 2014, he was selected as the "Author of the Year" at the Hong Kong Book Fair.
