Xin Qiji was a famous patriotic poet during the Southern Song Dynasty. His ci poems (lyric poetry) are characterized by their bold and powerful style and rich and diverse content, holding a very important position in the history of Song ci. Because Xin Qiji's ci poems possess a magnificent artistic conception and surging momentum, and are easy to recite, readers throughout history have highly praised them, believing their brilliance is no less than the marvels of Tang poetry. Xin Qiji has a large number of surviving ci poems, spanning a considerable period, almost serving as footnotes to his personal life. We have now selected forty-two of Xin Qiji's ci poems, providing necessary annotations and analysis, so that these grand and elegant Xin ci poems can be better appreciated and understood by contemporary readers.
