Living like an impurity
Try to make contact with non-human life
Writing is more silent than silence. Writing without giving up.
Maniniwei—A new documentary report attempting to shake the system
Dedicated to those who have been brutally treated by public power
Where life is worthless, where humans maliciously attack.
What I write is worthless and repulsive.
All this worthlessness combined is the truth of this place.
I want to spread sparks. I want to cram all these mountains, rivers, and seas of silence between the pages.
On that grotesque landscape, silence will become more shaped, more continuous, more like a wildfire.
No matter how complicated animal problems are, there are still ways to help. What is truly terrifying is "humans."
My son said that the shelter's transformation must be completed in your generation. Don't leave it to them.
All records are for "change," even if it fails, it is a brand new beginning.

Do you know how cats in an animal shelter in Taiwan are kept?
◎The "Animal Protection Act" stipulates that caged animals must have exercise time every day, but public shelters themselves are an exception.
◎In case of a typhoon, they can only eat one meal a day, and no one will clean up.
◎Cats suffering from chronic diseases such as kidney failure, stomatitis, and paralysis have no chance to be seen or adopted, and are kept in cages until they die.
◎Due to insufficient and old medical equipment, high turnover rate of veterinarians, and other factors, animals rarely receive proper medical care and treatment.
◎For people who return animals, the process of taking cats to a shelter is actually much simpler than adopting.
……
In May 2021, Maniniwei began a special interview project on animal shelters, writing the book "Love Animals Well in This Life," revealing the problems of animal shelters one by one. Five years later, Maniniwei did not leave, transforming from a writer to a practitioner, but this also triggered various conflicts between her and the animal protection department, eventually leading to a painful blow. With the determination to shake the system through writing, she also wanted to record the complex and absurd things in the shelters, as well as the various people she met, including volunteers, veterinarians, leaders of volunteer groups, legislators, lawyers, etc., writing down the real survival records of Taipei shelter volunteers, a most "down-to-earth" and most authentic book.
In the connection between the void of writing and the world, Taiwan and I have formed a connection because of the shelters. This connection is not because I conducted interviews, but because there are many, many more things that happened after the interviews; perhaps darkness and light coexist, but they do not appear at the same time. I have seen many cat lovers with strong actions and have made many connections.
