"The Feast of Scoundrels" is a cultural study written by Zhu Dake, published by Nova Press in November 2006. Based on identity theory, the book proposes that Chinese dynastic history cycles through the interaction of nationalism and scoundrelism, constructing a dynamic framework of state/scoundrel dichotomy, thereby revising the "super-stable structure" theory.
The book focuses on the discourse system of scoundrels, analyzing its mechanism of resisting the official discourse of the state through an ironic system (cool language, erotic language, foul language), covering cases such as Wang Shuo's literature. The study involves the infiltration of scoundrel narratives in literature, art, rock music, and cyber culture, demonstrating the deconstructive effect of scoundrel discourse on the Maoist language system. The work took three years to complete and was published after being reviewed by 60 publishing houses, and is regarded as a mirror for observing the cultural system. Zhu Dake is currently a professor at Tongji University, specializing in cultural criticism and mythology, and is the author of many works, including "The Burning Maze".
