During Japan's Meiji era, Seishiro Watanuki, an impoverished scholar, was entrusted with guarding the old residence of his deceased friend's parents. This marked the beginning of his extraordinary caretaking journey. In this ancient house, surrounded by plants, he encounters the crape myrtle that secretly loves him, a kappa who steals his clothes, a tanuki that can transform into a human, and a magnolia that harbors a dragon's offspring. Even the dog he adopts is a famous arbitrator in the neighborhood. Everything seems incredible, yet it's all within reason. Each supernatural encounter is gentle and healing, and every fantastical experience points to a profound reflection on life.
