The June Fourth Movement, like the May Fourth Movement, embodied the courage and aspirations of the Chinese people, leaving an indelible mark on human history.
The compilation and publication of "The June Fourth Poetry Collection" aims to promote the spirit of June Fourth, carry on its culture, further eradicate the remnants of the authoritarian system still present in Chinese society, and achieve the human rights ideals of democracy, freedom, equality, and fraternity. This book has been banned and suppressed by the Chinese government multiple times. It is also the only literary and historical work related to June Fourth that is collected by the U.S. Library of Congress and the National Library of Australia.
"The June Fourth Poetry Collection" is divided into five chapters. It includes works by victims of the incident, pro-democracy activists from China and abroad, civil society members, international friends, and June Fourth songs, to narrate history and demonstrate how the June Fourth Movement evolved into a cultural movement.
The editor hopes that the publication of this poetry collection will enable people to remember history, look to the future, and contribute their light and warmth to the Chinese nation's early embrace of modern and advanced civilization.
