Lucius Chapin Porter (1880–1958) was a legendary professor of philosophy, Dean at Yenching University, and Executive Secretary of the Harvard-Yenching Institute in Beijing. Peking University’s iconic Boya Pagoda (Porter's Pagoda) was funded by his family and named after him. This volume was part of his personal collection during his time at Yenching in post-war Peking.

Condition Report:

Dust Jacket: Preserves the original black and red printed dust jacket. Shows light chipping and wear along the edges/corners, but overall visually striking and intact.

Binding & Pages: Original cloth boards under DJ. Binding is tight and sturdy. Pages are naturally age-toned, clean, and free of internal marginalia. All maps and photographic plates are present and in excellent condition.

Signatures: Features a crisp, bold provenance inscription by Yenching University Dean Lucius C. Porter (Peking 1947), a secondary provenance signature from Beloit College professor Gustav E. Johnson (1958), and an owner stamp at the upper right.
