Zhu Hezhi's "The Promised Land" was regarded by the judges as a rare masterpiece in many years. This novel focuses on the "Taroko Aboriginal Subjugation Incident" in the early 20th century, using dialectical techniques to highlight the contradictions in the Japanese governor's "barbarian control" policy. The author's literary style is quite moving. He skillfully weaves through historical materials, using the gaps in historical narratives to appropriately fill in rich imagination. Unless one is an expert, it would be impossible to allow all the characters to move in and out so seamlessly. The author had to both adhere to historical facts and bring out lyrical writing, a kind of extraordinary planning ability that is very rare.
