Rights on Paper: The Plight of Women in Family Litigation in Modern China

Legal historian Liu Kaiyue, by analyzing judicial archives from Rongxian County, Sichuan Province during the Republic of China era, reconstructs the true stories of five grassroots women who went to court to fight for rights such as inheritance and divorce, revealing the dilemma of women's rights being "on paper" but difficult to truly realize during the modernization process of law.
