Reunion

This collection features 16 novellas and short stories by Ying Fan. It includes early representative works such as "Reunion," "Marriage," and "Another Kind of Marriage," as well as recent creations like "The Road Ahead," "Dog's Mouth, Elephant's Tooth," "The Last Night in Amsterdam," and "All the Beautiful People Come to New York," which intentionally incorporate more creative writing elements. Ying Fan's stories often prioritize imagery, showcasing characteristics of poetic fiction. For example, titles like "Lotus in the Mountains," "Sarah," "Swimming Class," and "Dishwashing" all hold specific meanings and profound implications. These 16 stories almost exclusively depict the lives and emotional tales of Chinese intellectuals in New York. They portray their loneliness and growth, dreams and hopes, memories and aspirations; their youthful, bewildered love and their middle-aged, bittersweet marriages; their sense of loss in a foreign land and their rebirth in the New World; their tentative compromises with their current partners, and their cherished reconciliation with their present lives.
