It is well known that modern science has had a profound, complex, and multifaceted impact on modern Chinese culture, and, along with "democracy," became a banner of the May Fourth New Culture Movement. Therefore, the emergence and transformation of modern science offer an important window into observing the modernization process of Chinese culture in the first half of the 20th century. This book starts from this issue, based on the perspective of new liberal arts and interdisciplinary studies, and takes "reforming the old and ushering in the new" as an entry point to discuss several important topics concerning modern science and the modernization process of Chinese culture. It elaborates on the impact of modern science on the modernization process of Chinese culture from different angles, thereby demonstrating that this impact is diverse and multi-layered.
