Xin Qiji was a famous patriotic poet of the Southern Song Dynasty. His ci poems (lyric poetry) are known for their bold and powerful style and rich and varied content, holding a very important position in the history of Song ci. Because Xin Qiji's ci poems are magnificent in their scope, vigorous in their momentum, and easy to recite, readers throughout history have highly praised them, believing their brilliance is no less than the wonder of Tang poetry. Xin Qiji has a large number of surviving ci poems, spanning a long period, which can almost be seen as footnotes to his personal life. We have now selected forty-two of Xin Qiji's ci poems, providing necessary annotations and analyses to make these majestic and elegant Xin ci poems more accessible and understandable to contemporary readers.
