Isaac Asimov (1920-1992) was one of the three greatest science fiction writers of the 20th century and a world-renowned versatile popular author. Born in Belarus, he immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of three and settled in New York City. Exceptionally intelligent, he graduated from Columbia University at 19 and subsequently earned master's and doctoral degrees in chemistry from the same university. In 1949, he became a lecturer at Boston University School of Medicine, was promoted to associate professor in 1955, and three years later, due to his passion for writing, he resigned from his teaching position to become a professional writer until his last breath. Asimov wrote on everything, with nearly 500 books to his name. However, both he and readers worldwide cherished his science fiction works most. He won five Hugo Awards, two Nebula Awards, and the Grand Master Award, the highest honor in science fiction. In recent years, two major robot science fiction films, "Bicentennial Man" and "I, Robot," were adapted from his famous works. The "Foundation series" is Asimov's representative science fiction work, which he nurtured for half a century. The first story was completed in early September 1941, and the last one was barely finished just before his death. In his later years, Asimov increasingly identified with Hari Seldon, the spiritual leader of "Foundation," and he indeed had a far-sighted, compassionate concern for human civilization. "Living less than a hundred years, often worrying for a thousand" is the best portrayal of the master's magnanimity.
